Heroes of the Green

Green is more than just a color, it's a commitment. Here are the Heroes of the Green that put the enviornment in the forefront. They know that "being Green" is a new way of life that we must develop in order to protect our future. That is why we celebrate them here.

Governor Schwarzenegger has treated the environment as his personal friend and has made great efforts to take care of it. He has met with automakers to work on reducing carbon emissions in the cars they build and under his watch the U.S. Department of Energy awarded $65.6 million to support the California Energy Commission's West Coast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership where the research project brings together dedicated scientists and engineers to identify the best way for keeping CO2 out of the atmosphere and thereby reducing mankind's impact on the climate.

California had always been a leader in taking care of the environment and Governor Schwarzenegger is making sure it stays that way!

The State of California

California has been the front runner of living a "green life" long before anyone else.

In 2006, the people of California passed a law called the "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Performance Standard Act" that say the electric companies have to set a global warming emissions standard for electricity used in California

In 2006, Californians also passed a law called the "Global Warming Solutions Act" that states that by 2020, California will reduce the levels of carbon emissions to the levels that existed in 1990. By 2050, they will reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent.

California's Zero Emission Vehicle program has helped launch Hybrid vehicles. You can check out more at Union of Concerned Scientists
